Family of Encouragers
Who is your family “encourager”? We often label one or two of our family members as “The Encourager”. When I wrote “Best Day of Your Life” I was trying to establish our family’s identity as people who are loving ENCOURAGERS.
The lyrics remind us that telling someone you are praying for them is the ultimate encouragement:
“I’M PRAYING THIS WILL BE
THE BEST DAY OF YOUR LIFE
I’M PRAYING GOD WILL
TOUCH YOU WITH HIS SPIRIT
I’M PRAYING THIS WILL BE
THE BEST DAY OF YOUR LIFE

AND YOU WILL HEAR IT”
Whether we are singing, speaking or writing a note, encouraging people always makes an impact!
Have you ever received a text you wanted to save and read everyday? Have you ever SENT a text to someone and hoped it would be so encouraging they would want to keep it and read it every day?
Honestly, what feels better or more fulfilling than genuinely making a difference in somebody’s day? To encourage, to inspire, to make them laugh!
Everyone needs encouragement . . . not just to “feel better” or be happy, but for the deepest issues of life! WE WERE CREATED to be “iron sharpening iron”! When a friend speaks life or reminds me of my true priorities and challenges me to think bigger, or serve greater . . . the IMPACT IS IMMEASURABLE!
As a parent we can grow and nurture this gift of encouragement in each of our children.
I remember so many mornings, driving the kids to school and challenging them to ENCOURAGE THEIR TEACHERS! Isn’t it funny we have to remind our children that their teachers are actually human too! That they have feelings and that many times they may be having a bad day and our smiles or hugs or words can make a difference.
Everyone (child or adult) can have the identity of being an encourager. Every family can have a culture of encouraging one another and building up those around us.
Kids are usually competitive by nature (...aren’t we all?). We can create an atmosphere of literally “racing” to encourage the most! Now this is a great family question: “who is our family encourager”? May we all believe “I am!”. May we all desire to live “over-the-top”, relentlessly committed to seeing the best in one another.
The best part of encouraging is it will always come back to us! In fact, it usually comes at just the moment we need it most! GOD’S TIMING IS PERFECT.
Whether we are receiving or giving encouragement, He will TIME any encouraging text (or call!) just when He knows ANOTHER PERSON OR WE NEED that word! He can drop our face in front of a busy, but faithful friend, who wisely stops to send her message, like a package of love and life our way. He can bring someone to our mind we haven’t thought of for months, and our call comes during a difficult time in their life! It doesn’t have to be a long speech . . . JUST A WORD OF LOVE & ENCOURAGEMENT!
Children can learn to be aware of their concern for a specific friend. They learn by example as they hear us speaking hope and love to those around us. We as parents can model a consistent lifestyle of encouraging everyone we come in contact with.
May I encourage you to bring joy into somebody’s day, and teach your children that they can be used to encourage others too! When you label your children as “The Family Encourager” you create a path of favor and success for their whole lives!
“Who are we? WE ARE ENCOURAGERS!”
So talk about it as a family! Little people can speak their love so sweetly! Hearing your family encourage others will be priceless memories!
